Agartala, 7 th Dec. 2025: Oisho Bani Society (OBS) with the support of Steyler Missionare organized a day long Kisan Mela on 7 th December, 2025 under the supervision of Mr. Bishop Debbarma, at Jaduni Hukumu, Belbari, Champaknagar. The objective of the program was to encourage, recognize and link the farmers to market. On the other hand through various programs OBS encourages and promotes organic farming and other allied activities like animal husbandry, horticulture, and fish farming through the farmers club. The OBS has mobilized 300 farmers under 16 farmers clubs in the locality of Jirania and Jampuijala Sub-Divisions. On a regular basis various capacity building training, awareness and livelihood support have been provided for the farmers by OBS. On the occasion of Kisan Mela 257 farmers and others took part in the program. The farmers club had put up the stalls to showcase their organic farm products like vegetables, yam, ginger, lemon, special varieties of scented rice, radish, pumpkin, ash guard, leaf vegetables, fruits etc. Dr. Maibam Devi, SMS, KVK Belbari was the chief guest and other dignitaries were Mr. Parimal Debbarma, Vice President of OBS, Champaknagar, Mr. Kamal Debbarma, board member of OBS, Mr. Mangal Debbarma, board member member of OBS and Fr. Maxim Rogrigues, Local Project Coordinator. Fr. Nabin Roshan Lakra, Director of OBS welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the purpose of Kisan Mela. Dr. Maibam Devi, the chief guest highly appreciated and encouraged the farmers for their indigenous products. She also spoke about government schemes and necessary support from KVK for the farmers.
